Carol Jane Shelton is a Canadian artist who has spent over 25 years honing her talent painting heritage homes, nostalgia scenes and animals. Well known for her incredibly realistic style and ability to capture a true likeness, Carol works on commission producing "pet portraits" and "house portraits" of private residences, businesses and cottages. She has also published a series of limited edition prints that celebrate premier examples of fine Ontario architecture. Her skill in creating remarkably detailed and accurate drawings is combined with a life-long love of beautiful buildings and active involvement in the preservation of our architectural heritage. She indulges her other passion, for all creatures great and small, by doing "pet portraits", drawings that capture the unique personality and sparkle of her client's beloved animal companions. It is her attention to the smallest things - from a number on a mailbox to specific flowers in the garden, or the spot of colour on a wet nose and a glint in the eye - that makes her work unique.

House Portraits

Throughout her lifetime, Carol has created hundreds of private commissions - affordable "home portraits" of family homesteads, first homes, dream homes or simply homes with sentimental value. Her paintings have traveled as far away as India, England and the United States, as well as from coast to coast across Canada. It is her greatest pleasure to be able to provide an original and meaningful piece of art that captures a special memory for its owner. Carol can create a portrait of your home that your family will treasure for years to come.

House portraits are usually done in pen & ink with watercolour. Artwork is completed using photographs for reference. Cost is based on finished size plus amount of detail in the home and its environment. e.g. a century home with fretwork, or a modern home with intricate brick details and extensive landscaping will be priced accordingly. Framing costs are additional.

Pet Portraits

Carol's other great passion is for our fellow living creatures. As a pet owner herself, she realizes the enormous gift of love and devotion that our animal companions give us and how they become a treasured part of our families. Carol's training as a Reiki Master brings a spiritual empathy to her artwork and a connection with animals that is clearly obvious. Her breathtaking portraits beautifully capture the essence of each individual personality.

Pet portraits are available in full colour. Artwork is done using photographs supplied by the client for reference (an extra fee will apply if a photo session with the animal is required to obtain good, clear pictures). Fee is based on finished size of artwork plus the amount of detail, e.g. horse with halter/bridle or other tack, full-body portraits or portraits that feature two or more pets will be priced accordingly.
